Is it necessary for my pet to be on year-round flea and tick prevention in Oklahoma?

Yes, year-round flea and tick prevention is recommended in Oklahoma due to the mild climate, which allows these pests to remain active throughout the year. Regular prevention helps protect your pet from potential infestations and diseases transmitted by fleas and ticks.

Why do I need to have a current VCPR to get flea, tick, and heartworm preventatives for my pet in Oklahoma?

In Oklahoma, a current Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR) is required to dispense prescription medications, including flea, tick, and heartworm preventatives. This ensures that the veterinarian has evaluated your pet’s health, providing a proper diagnosis and treatment plan. A VCPR helps maintain responsible and safe care, ensuring the appropriate medication is prescribed based on your pet’s specific needs. Without an up-to-date VCPR, we are unable to legally provide these preventatives.

Do we have an online option to get medications?

Yes, Checkout our Online Pharmacy! https://neighborhoodvetsvs.covetruspharmacy.com/

Do we recommend fecals?
Fecal tests are important in Oklahoma for dogs and cats because they help detect intestinal parasites that are common in the area, such as roundworms, hookworms, and giardia. These parasites can cause serious health issues, including digestive problems, weight loss, and in some cases, severe illness. Regular fecal tests are essential for early detection, ensuring proper treatment to keep your pet healthy and preventing the spread of parasites to other animals or humans.
Why are regular check-ups important for my pet?

Regular check-ups help detect health issues early, ensuring that your pet stays healthy and happy. Routine exams allow your veterinarian to monitor your pet’s overall well-being, administer vaccinations, and screen for potential health problems before they become serious.

What should I do if my pet is overweight?

If your pet is overweight, it’s important to address it through a balanced diet and regular exercise. Your veterinarian can help create a customized weight loss plan to ensure your pet reaches and maintains a healthy weight, reducing the risk of related health problems like arthritis and diabetes.
